Just thought I'd tell you that the scrolling hot topic icon hurts my eyes.

I will think about this. I will have to watch the forum for a little bit and see which one might fit in best or a better alternative.

Too much red, in both of them. Hurts my eyes. But the first one is better. Especially if it'd be tone down a bit.
What button are we talking about here? Where can i see it?

In "view active topics".

If a thread that you are posting in is "busy" you'll see an icon where the little text lines in it continually scroll upwards.

Dammit - the icon for this thread in view active topics for me is exactly the same as the second option I made - so you can't use that one, and the first isn't really different enough.
